Limbs of Love is a not-for-profit foundation formed to support individuals who have lost their limbs due to cancer, life-threatening illnesses, or accidents. We provide resources, treatments, prosthetic limbs, and assistive devices such as rolling walkers, crutches, and walking canes.

My Story

In early 2012, I noticed a small boil on my lower right leg, initially dismissing it as an insect bite until it became bothersome and painful. After several visits to different doctors with inconclusive results, a biopsy was finally performed and it was diagnosed as an aggressive form of cancer known as Rhabdomyosarcoma in December 2012.

In February 2013, I started chemotherapy treatment at LBJ General Hospital in Houston, followed by radiation and surgery. I went into remission in October 2013. However, by December 2015, the cancer recurred on my lower right leg, and I was referred to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for treatment.

My second round of chemotherapy started in February 2016, but the cancer had become resistant to the drugs. After three cycles of chemotherapy, the decision was made to remove the fibula bone on my right leg. After a successful surgery, I went into remission for the second time, but it was short-lived as the cancer returned within four months.

I started a third round of chemotherapy in December 2016, but the cancer was not responding to treatment. Finally, I made the heartbreaking decision to have my right leg amputated to save my life.

On March 8, 2017, I had an above-the-knee amputation on my right leg. It is truly a miracle that the cancer remained localized on my right leg for five years without metastasizing. I believe that I am alive today for a purpose. My goal is to create awareness about cancer and assist individuals who are going through cancer or have lost a limb due to cancer, life-threatening illnesses, or accidents.

Having gone through all stages of treatment and emerging as a survivor, I am aware that many people, especially Africans, are not privileged with the information and access to the treatments I received. I am committed to providing individuals with the resources and tools needed to live a productive life after amputation.
